Busting Out The Brooms – Phillies 3, Marlins 1

The Phillies’ clubhouse floor must be spotless after all the sweeping they just did.

*deep breath*

HOLY SHIT THE PHILLIES ARE NOW THREE GAMES OUT OF THE SECOND WILD CARD SPOT

Now that I’ve regained my composure, let’s get to the game. Cliff Lee, like he has been lately, was dealing today, giving up just one run in the sixth inning and going for seven strong. Jimmy Rollins smashed another home run, his 18th of the year. Aumont and Papelbon notched two scoreless innings. Never in doubt.

The Phillies won their seventh straight game, capping off an improbable two-week run that left them with an 11-3 record. All the teams above them in the Wild Card hunt, however, have not been so lucky. Both the Cardinals and the Pirates have gone 4-10, while the Dodgers have gone 5-9.

You know it’s September when the Phillies turn it on.
